DGR is hiring on behalf of a leading waste management and recycling client operating one of Ireland's largest and most advanced waste processing facilities, located at Cappagh Road, Finglas, Dublin 11. We are seeking two experienced Yard Supervisors one for Day Shift and one for Night Shift to oversee busy, high-throughput yard operations at this critical commercial waste transfer and recycling site.
About the Role This is a fast-paced, hands-on supervisory position at a major commercial waste transfer and materials recovery yard. The facility processes and handles large volumes of waste from multiple external companies' vehicles and crews arriving throughout the day and night, including commercial and industrial waste, dry mixed recyclables (DMR), municipal solid waste (MSW), organic/food waste, cardboard, plastics, and construction and demolition materials. The site produces Solid Recovered Fuel (SRF) and Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) through baling, sorting, and processing operations, and is one of the most significant waste recovery facilities in Ireland. You will be central to keeping those operations running safely, efficiently, and compliantly across your shift.
Key Responsibilities
Supervise and coordinate yard operations across your full shift, managing staff from multiple contractors and companies working on-site
Control the flow of inbound HGV trucks and commercial vehicles arriving to offload waste streams, ensuring safe and orderly tipping
Assign and oversee teams involved in waste sorting, baling, material transfer, and processing activities
Monitor incoming waste to ensure correct segregation of materials — including DMR, MSW, organics, cardboard, plastics, and construction waste
Conduct daily toolbox talks and safety briefings for all operative teams, including staff from third-party contractors
Enforce site rules, PPE compliance, and safe working practices at all times across all personnel, regardless of employer
Liaise with transport operators, logistics teams, and site management to manage vehicle scheduling and yard flow
Maintain accurate records of inbound loads, waste types, tonnages, and any incidents or near-misses
Identify and escalate operational issues, safety concerns, or non-compliance promptly
Support and mentor operative staff, fostering a strong safety-first culture on site
What We're Looking For
Proven supervisory or team-leading experience in a waste management, logistics, recycling, or industrial yard environment
Strong ability to manage multi-company teams, maintaining authority and professionalism across operatives from different organisations
Solid understanding of waste streams — commercial, industrial, DMR, MSW, organics, C&D, and recyclables
Working knowledge of health & safety legislation and experience conducting safety inductions and toolbox talks
Forklift licence and/or relevant plant ticket(s) an advantage
Excellent communication skills — ability to take charge, give clear direction, and de-escalate issues
Experience working in a high-volume, time-pressured environment
Proficient in basic record-keeping and reporting
What's on Offer
Competitive hourly rate (discussed at interview stage)
Consistent, long-term ongoing work
Day or night shift available — apply for your preferred shift or both
